Objectives The role of the Merchandising Assistant is to provide comprehensive and professional merchandising support to the Merchandising Department, Buying Department and Store Teams. In fulfilling his/her duties the Merchandising Assistant must fully utilise his/her knowledge and initiative, within the boundaries of the job description. Required skills * An experienced Space Planner, with at least 2 years retail experience and knowledge of relevant merchandising systems (preferably Spaceman). * A hands-on, proactive approach and previous experience within all areas of the retail space planning process. * Needs to be driven and passionate about making an impact and be corporate and professional with their approach. * Extensive administration skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a calm and pro-active manner. * The ideal candidate will be confident and self motivated. Excellent organisation, time and diary management. Meets deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work. * Ability to recognise areas in need of improvement and have the knowledge, desire and confidence to make suggestions and change it. * Effective communicator with individuals on all levels, with strong interpersonal skills. * Ideally educated to degree level. * High analytical and commercially aware. * Highly computer literate.Great attention to detail. Duties & Responsibilities * Operate within the merchandising principles and procedures in consultation with the Buying Department and Store Operations. * Understand and adhere to department processes, e.g. "Fixed Review", "Monthly Update" processes. * Develop merchandising plans in line with the "Fixed Review" calendar, working closely with the relevant Buying Director. Provide the Buying Director with detailed category and competitor analysis prior to each "Fixed Review" to aid merchandising decision making. * Update existing merchandising plans on a monthly basis, in line with the agreed monthly deadlines and merchandising rules specified by the Buying Director. Includes planograms for Tills, Front of Store and "Key Events" e.g. Christmas. Ensure all planograms are issued to stores in a timely manner. * Deal with day to day ad hoc activities arising within the Merchandising Department. * Operate the merchandising Systems Spaceman and my.spaceman and ensure the information contained within is kept up to date. * Provide feedback to the Merchandising Manager to ensure systems are fit for purpose and meet ongoing needs. * Handle and understand data from providers such as AC Nielsen. * Carry out space utilisation analysis (micro and macro space) on an ongoing basis to develop category and store level sales. * Make suggestions for improvements.Maintain the store planogram folders, ensuring they are up to date at all times. * Liaise with the Marketing Team to ensure the stores marketing calendar is maintained with the latest merchandising information. * Conduct store visits where necessary, including visiting competitors stores. * In the absence of the Merchandising Manager, information which arises on issues outside the Merchandising Assistants area of responsibility should be collated and referred to the covering Buying Director. * Ensure that a polite and professional manner is maintained in all internal/external communications. * Contribute positively and constructively to the Merchandising Team.Individual Tasks. In addition to the duties detailed above, it is the Merchandising Assistants responsibility to carry out tasks requested by his/her superior, which are of the nature of his/her job description or deemed to be a necessity of the business.
