From Grad to Divisional Manager

Why you work in recruitment and why Quest?
I joined Quest as a fresh graduate after completing a BSc in Sociology & Social Psychology at Loughborough. Not having a natural vocation through my degree I knew I wanted a role that was target-orientated as well as being very much focused on people; recruitment sounded like a good option!
What is challenging and rewarding about the role?
The challenge is that no two days are the same! Priorities may change on a regular basis, and it's about developing and managing your workload. The rewards are great financially in recruitment, but there are still other reasons we go to work. At Quest, we create a challenging, rewarding and fun workspace. Quest also have other great incentives such as meals out, trips away and retail vouchers. Being a manager I am keen on growth and developing others to achieve their goals. It’s great to see people you have hired as novices become great consultants that are making a difference with their own development and getting financial rewards.
What have you achieved at Quest?
I have been in the business for 12 years and love the role and the opportunity to develop your own team and business. I have achieved on-going development, management training and developed a diverse portfolio of clients. I have achieved a number of awards during my tenure here including being the highest billing consultant ever in Quest's 22 years of existence! So very pleasing results and not to mention having a successful team who are an asset to the business.

Liv’s story

Why you work in recruitment and why Quest?
I went into recruitment after being asked to join Michael Page after an interview with them as a candidate. At the time, I worked for a global mobile phone provider as a Business Development Manager but my degree and passion was in Textiles & Fashion. I studied this in Leeds for 3 years and lots of my friends worked within Head Office Retail. So, when I was offered to join as a Consultant to recruit for Buying & Merchandising roles, I jumped at the chance. After nearly 5 great years with Page Group, working from Manchester and Dubai, I decided to join Quest after building a long-term relationship with the MD and Chairwoman and really buying into the brand, people, and long term growth plans that were totally aligned with my vision for my career.
Why Quest?
Quest could offer me so much more than the corporate system I was used to at Page, and this is what personally suited me. I wanted to stretch myself and get a deeper involvement in a brand and business and to be able to really make a difference. Quest has offered me a mapped-out career path that is personal to me, after listening and understanding what I want. We have a great, flexible working environment and I can have a real influence on my brand and the Quest brand. We are constantly driving quality recruitment and benchmarking ourselves against the large multi-nationals but with more of a boutique feel. It’s a fantastic place to work, and I am also supported by a great team.
What is challenging and rewarding about the role?
The challenge about any role within recruitment is to always to be tenacious. Each day presents a challenge of some sort; it could be with a candidate, a client or even a difficult search brief for example, but this is what builds us into the best commercial recruiters. We invest a lot of hard work and time when working in this sector but then the rewards are huge. The rewards for me are working in a sector that I love and I am truly passionate about. I love meeting my candidates and a large variation of clients and I love understanding the inner workings of their businesses. It’s effectively a “behind the scenes tour” of how the goods we love or can’t live without get on the shelves. The financial reward is also really good and enables me to hit my personal and financial goals. For me the reward is coming to work and feeling so pumped up and excited about what I do. As a manager, another reward is being able to develop and empower others within the business and help them achieve their targets and goals.
What have you achieved at Quest?
I joined Quest in January 2017 so it’s still early in my journey with the group. We have achieved so much in a short space of time with the backing of an incredible MD and Chairwoman. We have non-stop development and training to help us be market leaders in the industry and have the tools to deliver the best quality to our clients for the markets we specialise in.
We have recently moved offices in Dubai and have a very boutique look and feel which is brilliant and sets us apart. We have strengthened our team on the retail side of the business and look forward to fantastic results ahead with the constant support of our consultants.
