Souq.com, the UAE based online shopping platform, will now be known as Amazon.ae. The move comes almost two years after the multinational e-commerce giant bought Souq for $580 million (Dh2.13 billion), which was it’s first venture in the Middle East.
Customers visiting Souq.com are now redirected to the new domain with a message from Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice-President of Amazon MENA. Amazon also launches Arabic language as an option for it’s users on both the app and the website, making the shopping experience more localised. Below is the tweet by Amazon announcing “Amazon.ae”.
Hello World. Your SOUQ is now https://t.co/2qqhfIqnP9

Souq has only been rebranded in the UAE but is still available in other regions that it operates such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
