Instagram has unveiled the much anticipated shopping feature in eight more countries, including the UK which will make it easier for consumers to buy products via the Instagram posts. The feature is now available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
This is the most significant update introduced by the social media platform since the introduction of Instagram for Business tools in 2016 and the launch of shopping advert ‘Collections’ earlier this year. It will be a significant step towards eCommerce and will seek to enhance the shopping experience of customers in the UK retail market.
Marks & Spencer, a popular UK brand was one of the first three businesses who were given access to trial the new feature. Erin Roy, the Head of Digital Marketing of M&S says, “Instagram Shopping offers us the opportunity to realise the huge potential of our 760,000 followers…Instagram has always been a great platform through which to showcase our products and engage with customers. Shoppable posts take this to a whole new level. They are simple to create, easy for our customers to use and enhance the Instagram experience.”
Businesses will now be able to tag products in their posts which will boost their reach and make the customer journey seamless and quick. It will allow customers to easily locate and purchase the products on the app.
Jim Squires, Head of Business of Instagram says:
“People come to Instagram every day to discover and buy products from their favourite businesses…We want that to be a seamless experience. Whether it’s a local artisan, florist or clothing store, shopping directly on Instagram has never been easier.”
