Hilton Worldwide has unveiled plans to roll out a new hotel room concept called “connected room” which will allow guests to control the room’s lighting, temperature, television and other amenities through their smartphones via Hilton Honors app.
The app already allows members to check-in digitally, skip the front desk and use the digital key within the app. It will further allow guests to have room controls at their fingertips similar to smart home devices.
Hilton has chosen Memphis to test the first high-tech ‘connected rooms’ feature in the hotel rooms. The chain will add more hotels to the test in the coming weeks, as per Skift.
In the long term, Hilton plans to have voice command installed within their rooms, like Google Home or Amazon Echo, with the ability for guests to save their preferences for future visits.
