Costa Coffee has successfully completed its first drone delivery in Dubai with the ‘Coffee-copter’.
The Costa branch located on Jumeirah Beach Road undertook a one-day trial of the ‘Drone Drop’ service to give a glimpse of what the future could hold for instant delivery.
According to the coffeehouse, the refreshments were ordered on call and delivered to the beach goers within 15 minutes using Costa’s special engineered drone. As per a survey, 82% of its customers agreed on having a drone drop service for delivery of food and beverages.
Shemaine Jones, Head of Marketing at Costa Coffee UAE says that drones are the “next frontier for instant delivery”.
“Dubai is known for leading the way with innovative technology. Our customers told us they’d love to have their favorite drinks dropped off by drones, so we’re super excited to have successfully tested this service, enabling beach-goers to enjoy ice cold beverages without leaving the comfort of their sun-loungers” adds Jones.
There has been a lot of talk about drone delivery services in Dubai since past few months, as discussed in our previous blog.
Olivia Roberts, Head of Retail (Middle East) at Quest Search and Selection believes there is a great scope for innovation in this region. She further adds:
“The Costa drone drop service shows that we aren’t far away. As Shemaine quoted, Dubai is the leader when it comes to innovation with many types of retail or online deliveries. We have seen this in the retail market with Ounass.com leading with a 2-hour delivery in Dubai and a personalized service. The UAE has also been a leader in the cash on delivery option which has also driven sales for companies such as Namshi and Souq. It will be interesting to see what innovations come out of the UAE and how drone deliveries change the landscape of the region.”
